Creating a beautiful smile through orthodontics is one way to improve your self-esteem as well as the health of your teeth. Left untreated, crooked teeth can lead to tooth decay, tooth loss, gum disease, improper bite and unnecessary self-consciousness.

The best starting time is determined by each individual’s need, but the American Association of Orthodontists recommends age 7 is a good time for the first visit since some children may require interceptive orthodontics.

Interceptive treatment therapy involves wearing a dental appliance that encourages proper growth of the jaw so that there is sufficient space for all of the teeth removes the need to extract teeth in order to make space. Early diagnosis and treatment can frequently help guide facial growth and tooth eruption and prevent more serious problems from developing.

The duration of treatment varies depending on the complexity of the problem. Many can be completed in 6-9 months. Comprehensive cases, however, last from one to two years. During that time you will need to keep appointments, follow instructions, as well as practice good oral hygiene and proper nutrition. The more compliant you are, the faster the treatment will go.

Conventional metal braces are the most familiar type. They consist of metal bands on the back teeth and bonded brackets on the outside surfaces of the front teeth with a connecting archwire between them. Conventional outside brackets are often recommended for certain types of treatment. They are also the most cost-effective.

Ceramic brackets bond onto the outside surfaces of your teeth, similar to conventional braces. Their clear or natural color gives them a less noticeable, "camouflaged" look.

How are you able to finish braces in 6 months?

The goal of a comprehensive orthodontic case is to straighten the teeth and fix the bite.
The goal of a six month braces case is to give you a great smile without significantly changing the bite and is more analogous to veneers.
If you are not having a problem with your bite or joint pain (TMJ / TMD) and are happy with the shape or your teeth, but just wish they were straight then six month braces may be for you.

Will my teeth be more sore with the six month braces treatment than regular braces?

With modern orthodontic materials we are using soft constant forces to move the teeth instead of the high instantaneous forces of yesterday.
Since we are actually using only fractions of the forces we have been able to dramatically increase the comfort level with braces.
